It can be difficult for torture survivors to trust health professionals enough to talk about their traumatic experiences, especially if doctors were complicit in their torture. On the other side, therapists of torture survivors have to guard against burn-out from listening to harrowing accounts of inhuman treatment. Yet for the staff at these treatment centers, the work is a privilege.
